The Chatham Anglers (1-0) beat the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (1-1) 4-1 in eight innings on Saturday at Veterans Field behind Tom Belza, who went 3-3 at the plate.
He singled in the second and fourth innings and homered in the eighth inning.Taylor Hill put together a nice outing. The Hyannis Harbor Hawks managed just one hit off of Hill, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his two innings of work.
Dallas Gallant was effective even in defeat, mowing down six the Chatham Anglers batters and allowing one run.
Russell Brewer got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He pitched two shutout innings. Brewer struck out five, walked none and gave up three hits.
Cole Johnson was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings, walked one, struck out four, and allowed two runs.
