The DeKalb County Liners (2-0) trailed by four in the eighth, but the DeKalb County Liners recovered thanks to a key single in the eighth inning from Markus Duckworth to pull out a 13-9 win over the Southland Vikings (0-2) at Homewood HS on Wednesday.
With the score tied at nine, Duckworth came to the plate and singled, bringing home Justin Abbott.
Duckworth reached base four times in the game for the DeKalb County Liners. He scored three runs and had one RBI. He singled in the first, fourth, and eighth innings.
Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 22 runs and 25 hits, including zero extra base hits. There were eight pitchers used in the game as the two managers searched for any way to finish it off.
Matt Risdon racked up five RBIs on three hits for the DeKalb County Liners. He singled in the first and seventh innings and homered in the ninth inning.
The Southland Vikings couldn't get anything going so long as Mike Taccona was on the hill. Taccona held the Southland Vikings hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Tanner Funke got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed three runs over one inning. Funke struck out none, walked one and gave up two hits.
Jonathon Rosario was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
