The Rockville Express (0-2) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 5-1 to the Vienna River Dogs (2-2) on Sunday.
While the Rockville Express led until the eighth inning, the Vienna River Dogs worked their way back and took the lead on an RBI double by Johnny Bladel.
Kevin Tatum led the Vienna River Dogs' offensive threat, as he got on base four times in the game. He doubled in the sixth inning and singled in the first and eighth innings.
Joseph Vanderplas brought the heat against the Rockville Express during his outing. The Rockville Express managed just two hits off of the the Vienna River Dogs' pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out six during his seven innings of work.
It was a good day at the plate for the Rockville Express' Josh Hampton. Hampton went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the second inning.
Dominic Vattunne couldn't get it done on the bump for the Rockville Express, taking a loss. He lasted just 7 2/3 innings, walked five, struck out nine, and allowed five runs.
