The Richmond RiverRats (33-26) shut the door early on the West Virginia Miners (40-19), capturing an 11-5 victory on Tuesday at McBride Stadium.

The game was decided quickly as the Richmond RiverRats exerted their will early with eight runs in the first three innings.

A three-run home run by Derek Trovillion and a groundout by Jake Mahon during the first inning supplied the early offense for the Richmond RiverRats.

Trovillion racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Richmond RiverRats.

It was a good day at the plate for the West Virginia Miners' Luke Meeteer. Meeteer went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the seventh inning and homered in the ninth inning.

Patrick Van Daalwyk improved to 5-5 on the year by picking up the win for the Richmond RiverRats. He allowed three runs over six innings. Van Daalwyk struck out two, walked one and gave up five hits.

Mike Finnigan (3-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed 10 runs in four innings, walked seven and struck out three.
