The Hutchinson Monarchs make the most of 6 hits in 5-4 victory over the Wichita Wheat Kings

The Hutchinson Monarchs (2-1) and the Wichita Wheat Kings (0-2) both had scoring chances on Sunday, but it was the Hutchinson Monarchs that were able to capitalize on them as they pulled out a 5-4 win at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

The Hutchinson Monarchs would not relinquish the lead as the Wichita Wheat Kings were unable to weather a three-run second inning deficit.

The Wichita Wheat Kings scored on a groundout by Michael Kattula in the fourth inning, a wild pitch in the seventh inning, and a steal of home by Zac Johnson, a single by Jordan Jenkins, and an error in the eighth inning. Despite their efforts, the Wichita Wheat Kings couldn't finish the comeback.

Scott Splett racked up four RBIs on one hit for the Hutchinson Monarchs. He doubled in the second inning.

Michael Schoolcraft brought the heat against the Wichita Wheat Kings during his outing. Schoolcraft held the Wichita Wheat Kings hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

Zach Richert recorded his first win of the year for the Hutchinson Monarchs. He allowed two runs over six innings. Richert struck out eight, walked none and gave up eight hits.

Robert Gummo was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked five, struck out three, and allowed three runs.
