Jackson Oldale drove in the go-ahead run to give the Babe Ruth Selects (1-1) the lead in the seventh inning, as the Babe Ruth Selects hung on to beat the South Oregon (0-1) 6-3 on Thursday.
Tyler Schmidt singled to start the seventh. He then went from first to second on a groundout by Jacob Cuch. Finally, Oldale came to the plate with the score tied at two in the seventh inning, and reached on an error, bringing home Schmidt.The Babe Ruth Selects were led by Sam Wilson's hitting. Wilson went 3-4 and scored one run. He singled in the first, fourth, and fifth innings.
The South Oregon had no answer for Schmidt, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The South Oregon managed just three hits off of the the Babe Ruth Selects' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three during his four innings of work.
Wilson improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Babe Ruth Selects. He allowed one run over two innings. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered two hits.
Andrew Sharp ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just four innings, walked three, struck out four, and allowed two runs.
