Aaron Vaughn had a busy 2014 season, pitching for three different teams in the Houston Astros organization. He started with the Gulf Coast Astros, only allowing three runs in 9.1 innings pitched. He was soon called up to the Tri-City ValleyCats (Short-Season A), where he was a perfect 2-0, allowing just two runs in 15.1 innings pitched (1.17 ERA). His 3.75 SO/W ratio was one of the highest on the team. Vaughn joined the Quad Cities River Bandits (A) late in the year, pitching a perfect 1.2 innings in relief. Playing his collegiate ball at Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho, Vaughn was the Crusadors all-time winningest pitcher with and 18-12 career mark. Vaughn earned Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Conference honors twice, and All-Region honors once. Vaughn signed with the Astros as a free agent in 2014 and might have had one of the most interesting childhoods on the team. The pitcher grew up raising tortoises and says he owned as many as 30 at one point.
