The Miami, FL native was drafted in the 12th round of the 2010 draft by the Kansas City Royals out of Dade County Community College.  His final year at Dade County was phenomenal with a 9-0 record and ERA of 1.37.  He struck out 72 in 65 2/3 innings. Hernandez pitched a combined 73 1/3 innings between two Class A teams in 2013 with a 1.72 ERA.  He struck out a total 74 while walking only 22.  His combined ERA in three minor league season with the Royals was a stellar 2.81.
