Another first time Honker, O’Neal pitched about as well as anyone could have asked him to this past season at St. Mary’s University in Texas. O’Neal had a 2.27 ERA for the season and held opposing batters to a very low .196 average. The San Antonio native also threw 5 shutouts on the year, including a 1-hitter against Panhandle State on February 24th. As a sophomore in 2011, O’Neal started 15 games, winning 7 of them and finished with a 2.70 ERA. His 93 innings and 77 strikeouts were both good for second on the team.
