The 2011 season will be the first for Aaron Shafer in a Gateway Grizzlies uniform. Shafer, whose brother Jake is also on the Grizzlies roster, spent the last three years in the Chicago Cubs organization, who picked him in the 2nd round (65th overall) of the 2008 MLB Draft. In his duration with the Cubs, the Wichita St. product went 17-13 with a 3.68 ERA in three seasons with five of Chicago's affiliated teams, reaching as high as Double-A with the Tennessee Smokies (2-2 with a 5.03 ERA in 25 appearances during 2010). The Moscow Hills, Missouri native was also drafted out of high school in the 16th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians.
