Bryan Marquez was cold coming off the bench, but Marquez warmed up quickly as Marquez stroked a key pinch-hit single in the three to lead the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (46-33) to an 11-6 win over the McAllen Thunder (29-51) on Friday at Harlingen Field.
With the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings trailing by one, Marquez came to the plate and singled, scoring Welinson Baez.
Leivi Ventura racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings. He homered in the second inning and singled in the fourth and eighth innings.
Wander Perez had an impressive outing against the McAllen Thunder's lineup. Perez held the McAllen Thunder hitless over 2 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four.
Yasser Gomez had a hot bat for the McAllen Thunder. Gomez went 3-5 and scored two runs. He singled in the first, second, and fourth innings.
Luis Noel recorded his eighth win for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings even though he allowed six runs over 6 2/3 innings. Noel struck out nine, walked one and gave up nine hits.
Scott Sobczak (1-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just four innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed three runs.
