Sunday was a great day for Jon Smith, as he hit two home runs to carry the Rockland Boulders (15-20) to an 18-12 victory over the Quebec Les Capitales (25-12) at Provident Bank Park.
Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 30 runs and 36 hits, including zero extra base hits. Both bullpens were busy with nine pitchers used in the game as the skippers of both squads tried to finish it off.
The Rockland Boulders blew out the Quebec Les Capitales thanks to 21 hits, including zero extra base hits. The Rockland Boulders scored six runs in the fifth on a single by Matt Nandin, a solo home run by Smith, an RBI single by Chris Valencia, a two-run single by Ryan Mollica, and a solo home run by Keith Brachold.
The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to four lead changes in the game.
The Rockland Boulders finally managed to grab the lead after a strong third inning. A groundout by Nandin scored Brachold and gave the Rockland Boulders the lead for good.
MacKenzie King improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Rockland Boulders. He allowed one run over 2 1/3 innings. He struck out four, walked two and surrendered four hits.
Guillaume Leduc (0-3) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in 3 1/3 innings, walked none and struck out none.
