The Gary SouthShore (6-7) beat the Sioux Falls (5-7) 8-4 on Wednesday at Gary, Ind. (U.S. Steel Yard) behind Sean M. Smith, who collected three hits.

He singled in the second, fourth, and fifth innings.

Cristian Guerrero racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Sioux Falls . He homered in the eighth inning.

Jack Van Leur looked sharp on the mound. The Gary SouthShore managed just one hit off of Van Leur, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his 2 1/3 innings of work.

Derek Drage improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Gary SouthShore . He allowed one run over five innings. Drage struck out one, walked three and gave up three hits.

Peter Gehle couldn't get it done on the bump for the Sioux Falls , taking a loss. He allowed eight runs in 3 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out one.

The game's last lead went to the Gary SouthShore thanks to a second inning rally that saw four runs cross the plate on a groundout by David Cooper and three singles.
