The Carolina Diamonds (3-10) and the Akron Racers (5-8) passed the lead back and forth eight times on Friday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium , but in the end the Carolina Diamonds pulled out a 5-4 win in nine innings over the Akron Racers.

Caitlin Lever was solid at the plate for the Carolina Diamonds. Lever went 3-5, drove in one and scored two runs. She homered in the seventh inning and singled in the third and ninth innings.

The Carolina Diamonds got the win thanks in large part to Katie Burkhart's dominant, 11-strikeout performance. Burkhart allowed three earned runs, 12 hits and two walks over nine innings.

Lisa Norris ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with her third loss of the year. She lasted just three innings, walked one, struck out five, and allowed three runs.
