Early lead not enough for the Lancaster Barnstormers, drop 7-6 decision to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs

The Lancaster Barnstormers (76-42) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 7-6 ballgame against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (58-59) on Friday at Clipper Magazine.

While the Lancaster Barnstormers led until the ninth inning, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs worked their way back and took the lead on a solo home run by Matt Padgett.

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs got their bats going early, scoring four runs in the first inning to pull ahead of the Lancaster Barnstormers.

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs were led by Casey Benjamin's hitting. Benjamin went 3-5, drove in one and scored two runs. He homered in the seventh inning and singled in the first and ninth innings.

The Lancaster Barnstormers' lineup had no answer for Deinys Suarez. Suarez held the Lancaster Barnstormers hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three.

Eduardo Morlan recorded his third win of the year for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered no hits.

Jeff Bennett (4-6) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just one inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed one run.
