Three first-inning runs helped the Sugar Land Skeeters (28-39) to a 6-4 win over the Bridgeport Bluefish (29-38) at Constellation Field, Sugar Land on Thursday.
The Sugar Land Skeeters would not relinquish the lead as the Bridgeport Bluefish were unable to weather a five-run second inning deficit.
The Bridgeport Bluefish scored on an RBI double by Kennard Jones and an RBI single by Eddie Rogers in the fifth inning and a two-run double by Julio DePaula in the seventh inning. Despite their efforts, the Bridgeport Bluefish couldn't finish the comeback.
Matt Hagen was hot from the plate for the Sugar Land Skeeters. Hagen went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He tripled in the second inning and singled in the fourth innings.
Michael Nix recorded his second win of the year for the Sugar Land Skeeters. He allowed two runs over five innings. He struck out three, walked three and surrendered five hits.
Jonah Bayliss (2-5) took the loss for the Bridgeport Bluefish. He lasted just five innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed five runs.
