Early lead not enough for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, drop 3-1 decision to the Long Island Ducks

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (26-29) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 3-1 ballgame against the Long Island Ducks (32-22) on Saturday at Regency Furniture Stadium.

The Long Island Ducks took the lead in the eighth inning on a solo home run by Dan Lyons.

It was a good day at the plate for the Long Island Ducks' Lyons. Lyons went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the third inning and homered in the eighth inning.

Bob Zimmermann baffled the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, striking out seven batters. Zimmermann allowed one earned run, six hits and three walks over six innings.

Despite the loss, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs' David Jones dominated the Long Island Ducks' batters, giving up one run and striking out six.

Eric Niesen recorded his first win of the year for the Long Island Ducks. Niesen struck out none, walked none and gave up no hits.

Charlie Manning ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run.
