The North Shore Navigators (27-19) and the Marthas Vineyard Sharks (24-21) both had scoring chances on Thursday, but it was the North Shore Navigators that were able to capitalize on them as they pulled out an 8-6 win at Fraser Field.
The North Shore Navigators would not relinquish the lead as the Marthas Vineyard Sharks were unable to weather a five-run fourth inning deficit.
The Marthas Vineyard Sharks scored on a groundout by Ronnie Rosario and a sacrifice fly by Pat Quinn in the sixth inning and an RBI single by Eric Jensen, an RBI single by Jensen, and an RBI double by Apolinar De La Cruz in the ninth inning. Despite their efforts, the Marthas Vineyard Sharks couldn't finish the comeback.
Tony Serino was hot from the plate for the North Shore Navigators. Serino went 3-5, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the fourth and fifth innings and doubled in the seventh inning.
Joe Gruntkosky got the win, running his season record to 3-1. He allowed three runs over seven innings. He struck out four, walked none and surrendered nine hits.
Dan Weigel (3-3) took the loss for the Marthas Vineyard Sharks. He allowed six runs in 3 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out two.
