Early lead not enough for the Regina Red Sox, drop 3-1 decision to the Yorkton Cardinals

The Regina Red Sox (34-11) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 3-1 ballgame against the Yorkton Cardinals (14-32) on Saturday at Jubilee Park.

While the Regina Red Sox led until the eighth inning, the Yorkton Cardinals worked their way back and took the lead on an RBI single by Brayon Colley.

Jamie Whitehead pitched lights out for the Yorkton Cardinals. The Regina Red Sox managed just three hits off of the the Yorkton Cardinals' pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked three and struck out one during his six innings of work.

A bright spot for the Regina Red Sox in the defeat was Shawn Spainhoward, who allowed only zero runs while striking out six.

Corey Thompson improved to 2-5 on the year by picking up the win for the Yorkton Cardinals. Thompson struck out two, walked none and gave up one hit.

Jesus Del Rosario was charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed three runs.
