The Melville Millionaires top the Medicine Hat Mavericks in back-and-forth affair, 9-7

The Melville Millionaires (21-18) and the Medicine Hat Mavericks (26-13) passed the lead back and forth nine times on Friday at Pirie Field, but in the end the Melville Millionaires pulled out a 9-7 win over the Medicine Hat Mavericks.

The Melville Millionaires pulled out the win thanks to a strong seventh inning. A sacrifice fly by AJ Florence scored Chris Burk and gave the Melville Millionaires the lead for good.

Burk had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the first and seventh innings.

Grant Silva got on base four times in the game for the Medicine Hat Mavericks. He scored one run and had one RBI. He tripled in the fifth inning and singled in the third and seventh innings.

Jon Mark Abbey recorded his third win of the year for the Melville Millionaires. He allowed two runs over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out six, walked five and surrendered three hits.

Matt Davis ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed four runs.

Cam Firth, Ben Villafuerte and Burk helped lead the Melville Millionaires. They combined for six hits and five RBIs.
