The Lorain County Ironmen top the West Virginia Miners in back-and-forth affair, 9-7

The Lorain County Ironmen (13-34) and the West Virginia Miners (29-16) volleyed the lead five times on Sunday, but the Lorain County Ironmen came out on top for a 9-7 win on Sunday at Linda K. Epling Stadium.

The Lorain County Ironmen staved off the West Virginia Miners as the West Virginia Miners were unable to match the Lorain County Ironmen down the stretch.

The West Virginia Miners scored on an RBI single by Bradley Strong and an RBI single by Tyler Wells in the fifth inning and an RBI single by Joesph Williams and an RBI single by Alex De La Rosa in the ninth inning. Despite their efforts, the West Virginia Miners couldn't get over the hump.

Sam Alvis had a busy day at the plate, collecting three extra-base hits. He doubled in the first and third innings and homered in the fourth inning.

Clayton Prestridge racked up three RBIs on three hits for the West Virginia Miners. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the first and ninth innings.

Vince Frate recorded his first win for the Lorain County Ironmen even though he allowed five runs over four innings. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered eight hits.

Will Blalock ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in four innings, walked one and struck out two.

The Lorain County Ironmen's Alvis, Michael Burke, Nolan Neuschaefer and Cody Koch combined for 11 hits and eight RBIs.
