Jonathan Johnson drove in the winning run to give the Gateway Grizzlies (24-23) the lead in the seventh inning, as the Gateway Grizzlies hung on to beat the Rockford RiverHawks (19-27) 5-2 on Saturday.
Alex Guthrie singled to start the seventh. He then went from second to third on an RBI single by Richie Jimenez Jr.. Finally, Johnson came to the plate with the score tied at two in the seventh inning, and doubled, scoring Guthrie and Jimenez Jr.Landon Hernandez put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Gateway Grizzlies. He doubled in the seventh inning and homered in the eighth inning.
Tim Brown picked up the win for the Gateway Grizzlies. Brown allowed one earned run, nine hits and two walks while striking out two over nine innings of work.
Drew Rucinski was effective even in defeat, mowing down five the Gateway Grizzlies batters and allowing two runs.
Mickey Cassidy (0-1) took the loss for the Rockford RiverHawks. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
