The Southern Illinois Miners (50-35) beat the River City Rascals (41-45) 10-5 on Wednesday at T. R. Hughes Ballpark behind Carlos Mendez, who had two extra base hits.

He doubled in the second and third innings and singled in the sixth inning.

Nick Cicio pitched lights out for the Southern Illinois Miners. The River City Rascals managed just one hit off of Cicio, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his 2 2/3 innings of work.

Jeremy Synan led the River City Rascals' offensive threat, as he got on base four times in the game. He singled in the first and fifth innings.

The Southern Illinois Miners had no answer for Kelii Zablan, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Southern Illinois Miners managed just one hit off of the the River City Rascals' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out two during his 2 2/3 innings of work.

Cody Hall recorded his ninth win of the year for the Southern Illinois Miners. He allowed four runs over five innings. Hall struck out two, walked four and gave up seven hits.

Doug Shields couldn't get it done on the rubber for the River City Rascals, taking a loss. He allowed six runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out three.

Cannon Lester, Mendez and Jason Ganek helped lead the Southern Illinois Miners. They combined for nine hits and five RBIs.
