An ace performance by Doug Shields led the River City Rascals (36-40) to a 2-1 win over the Normal CornBelters (24-52) on Friday at The Corn Crib.

Shields' seven strikeouts helped the River City Rascals to the victory. Shields allowed one earned run, four hits and one walk over eight innings.

The Normal CornBelters were ahead early but they ultimately surrendered the lead for good. The Normal CornBelters were up until the sixth inning, but the River City Rascals had other plans for the final outcome, taking the lead back on a groundout by Matt Serna.

Brendon Smith (2-5) took the loss for the Normal CornBelters. He lasted just six innings, walked five, struck out five, and allowed two runs.
