Great game from the Lake Erie Crushers' Davis not enough in 9-7 loss to the Gateway Grizzlies

The Lake Erie Crushers (42-33) failed to take advantage of Andrew Davis's effort at the plate on Thursday, losing 9-7 to the Gateway Grizzlies (44-31) at GCS Ballpark - Sauget, IL.

Davis rocked the Gateway Grizzlies with two home runs. Davis went 4-5 in the game with five RBIs and two runs scored. Davis homered in the fourth and sixth innings.

The Gateway Grizzlies scored five runs in the first inning to build an early lead.

The Gateway Grizzlies staved off the Lake Erie Crushers as the Lake Erie Crushers were unable to match the Gateway Grizzlies down the stretch.

The Lake Erie Crushers scored on a three-run home run by Davis in the fourth inning, a solo home run by Davis, an error, and a sacrifice fly by Wally Correa in the sixth inning, an RBI single by Davis in the seventh inning, and an RBI triple by Robby Kuzdale in the eighth inning. Still, the Lake Erie Crushers couldn't catch the Gateway Grizzlies.

Even though Tim Brown allowed five runs over six innings he still recorded the victory, his ninth of the season. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered 11 hits.

Josh Hungerman couldn't get it done on the hill for the Lake Erie Crushers, taking a loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked three, struck out one, and allowed five runs.

The Gateway Grizzlies' John Shelby, Rogelio Noris, Jon Myers and Jerod Yakubik combined for five hits and eight RBIs.
