An ace performance by Sean Hjelle hoisted the Elmira Pioneers (33-14) to a 3-1 win over the Newark Pilots (28-21) on Friday at Colburn Park.

Hjelle's nine strikeouts were enough to push the Elmira Pioneers past the Newark Pilots. Hjelle allowed no earned runs on three hits and no walks over eight innings.

Troy Dixon put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Elmira Pioneers. He tripled in the first inning and doubled in the eighth inning.

The Elmira Pioneers had no answer for Tysen Fischlin, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Elmira Pioneers managed just one hit off of Fischlin, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his two innings of work.

Ryan Wesson was charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just two innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed two runs.
