Taylor Olmstead had two extra base hits, helping the Utica Blue Sox (23-11) to a 5-2 victory over the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs (16-14) on Thursday at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs had no answer for Chad Burrows, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs managed just one hit off of the the Utica Blue Sox's pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three during his three innings of work.

Craig Prince improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Utica Blue Sox. He allowed two runs over six innings. Prince struck out six, walked four and gave up six hits.

Mike Appel (2-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just six innings, walked four, struck out five, and allowed three runs.
