A 13-run explosion in the third inning carried the SW Oregon (6-2) to a 15-7 win in five innings over the North Idaho (6-3) at Heinz/Ore-Ida Regional Softball on Monday.
The SW Oregon scored in the third on an RBI single by Ereanna Higbee, an error, a two-run double by Katelyn Rossback, a two-run double by Jayde McDowell, a two-run home run by Danielle Crocket, a two-run double by Brandi Bowling, a two-run single by Rossback, and an RBI single by McDowell.
Alexis Pike-Altona racked up four RBIs on three hits for the SW Oregon. He singled in the second inning.
Kekuulani Haake racked up two RBIs on two hits for the North Idaho. He singled in the second inning and homered in the third inning.
Shevan DeFreitas recorded his fourth win for the SW Oregon even though he allowed seven runs over five innings. He struck out none, walked two and surrendered eight hits.
Katie Barron was charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed 11 runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out three.
