The Terre Haute Rex third-inning burst enough to top the Champion City Kings, 10-2

A six-run explosion in the third inning carried the Terre Haute Rex (32-20) to a 10-2 win over the Champion City Kings (23-29) at Davidson Stadium on Friday.

The Terre Haute Rex scored in the third on a sacrifice fly by Justin Kirkpatrick, an RBI single by Danny Beaver, a single by Chris Ayers, an RBI single by James Hill III, an RBI single by Hill III, , an RBI single by Julio Rosales, a single by Michael Klein, and a groundout by Manny Rojas.

Klein racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Terre Haute Rex.

The Champion City Kings had no answer for Triston Polley, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Polley held the Champion City Kings hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

Paul Sheffield had an impressive outing against the Terre Haute Rex's lineup. The Terre Haute Rex managed just two hits off of the the Champion City Kings' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his four innings of work.

Mark Meyer improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Terre Haute Rex. He allowed two runs over six innings. Meyer struck out two, walked four and gave up four hits.

Joe Pourier couldn't get it done on the hill for the Champion City Kings, taking a loss. He allowed seven runs in two innings, walked three and struck out two.
