An outstanding effort by Tommy Danczyk led the Valley Center Diamond Dawgs (1-0) to a 4-1 win over the Lake Erie Monarchs (0-1) on Friday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Danczyk picked up the win for the Valley Center Diamond Dawgs. Danczyk pitched nine innings and allowed no earned runs, five hits and no walks while striking out six.
Josh Whisler got a hit in each of his two at bats. He tripled in the first inning and singled in the fourth inning.
Robert Zenas (0-1) took the loss for the Lake Erie Monarchs. He lasted just six innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed four runs.
