The Newton Rebels (3-1) beat the Cape Girardeau Capahas (1-2) 7-3 on Tuesday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium behind Jason Jones, who collected three hits.

He homered in the third inning and singled in the fourth and fifth innings.

It was a good day at the plate for the Cape Girardeau Capahas' Alex Heuring. Heuring went 3-5, drove in one and scored one run. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the first and eighth innings.

Tyler Bishop improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Newton Rebels. He allowed three runs over 7 2/3 innings. Bishop struck out four, walked two and gave up nine hits.

Cody Heisser ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just three innings, walked four, struck out four, and allowed five runs.
