Taylor Hillson went 2-3 as the Elmira Pioneers (33-17) took home a 5-4 victory over the Utica Brewers (21-29) at Dunn Field on Friday.
He singled in the third and seventh innings.The Utica Brewers had no answer for Andrew Mahoney, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Mahoney held the Utica Brewers hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Dan Vucovich had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the fourth and seventh innings.
Justin Lewis improved to 5-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Elmira Pioneers. He allowed four runs over seven innings. Lewis struck out four, walked three and gave up six hits.
Tyler Palm couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Utica Brewers, taking a loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed one run.
