The Joliet Slammers outdone by Houck and the Evansville Otters, 7-4

The Evansville Otters (15-6) beat the Joliet Slammers (8-13) 7-4 on Sunday at Silver Cross Field behind Shayne Houck, who had two extra base hits.

He doubled in the fourth inning and homered in the ninth inning.

Connor Little had an impressive outing against the Joliet Slammers' lineup. Little held the Joliet Slammers hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

A bright spot for the Joliet Slammers in the defeat was Kevin McNorton, who allowed only one run while striking out five.

Russell Moldenhauer was solid at the plate for the Joliet Slammers. Moldenhauer went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first and third innings and doubled in the sixth inning.

Efrain Nieves recorded his third win of the year for the Evansville Otters. He allowed four runs over 6 2/3 innings. Nieves struck out four, walked one and gave up eight hits.

Aaron Vaughn (0-3) took the loss for the Joliet Slammers. He allowed six runs in four innings, walked three and struck out four.

The Evansville Otters were sparked by John Schultz and Houck, who teamed up for five hits and four RBIs.
