An excellent effort by Ernesto Zaragoza hoisted the Washington Wild Things (9-11) to an 11-0 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums (10-9) on Saturday at CONSOL Energy Park.
Zaragoza held the Traverse City Beach Bums scoreless during his nine innings of work. He pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on five hits while striking out eight.
Jeudy Valdez hit two home runs for the Washington Wild Things. Valdez went 3-4 in the game with two RBIs and two runs scored. Valdez homered in the second and fifth innings.
Nine runs in the opening three innings allowed the Washington Wild Things to easily put away the Traverse City Beach Bums. An RBI single by Carter Bell, an error, a sacrifice fly by C.J. Beatty, and a two-run home run by Lee Orr during the first inning and a solo home run by Valdez, an RBI single by David Popkins, an error, and a two-run double by Beatty in the second inning fueled the Washington Wild Things' offense early.
Alex Phillips ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed nine runs in one inning, walked none and struck out none.
