A magnificent effort by Richard Lucas spurred the Normal CornBelters (13-4) to a 6-3 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts (5-11) on Wednesday at The Corn Crib.
Lucas rocked the Windy City ThunderBolts with two home runs. Lucas went 2-5 in the game with four RBIs and two runs scored. Lucas homered in the eighth and ninth innings.
The Windy City ThunderBolts jumped out to an early lead, but they were unable to hang on. The Windy City ThunderBolts were up until the ninth inning, but the Normal CornBelters had other plans for the final outcome, taking the lead back on a three-run home run by Lucas.
Michael Schweiss allowed three earned runs, five hits and no walks while striking out six over eight innings of work.
Despite the loss, the Windy City ThunderBolts' Jake Fisher dominated the Normal CornBelters' batters, giving up two runs and striking out six.
Victor Beriguete improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Normal CornBelters. Beriguete struck out none, walked none and gave up two hits.
Chris DeBoo couldn't get it done on the bump for the Windy City ThunderBolts, taking a loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
