Early boost from Macciocchi helps the Champion City Kings get past the West Virginia Miners, 6-2

Five first-inning runs helped the Champion City Kings (8-19) to a 6-2 win over the West Virginia Miners (19-10) at Davidson Stadium on Sunday.

The Champion City Kings scored in the first on a sacrifice fly by Bradley Macciocchi, an RBI single by Enmanuel Lopez, a sacrifice fly by Luke Valutis, an RBI single by Roman Gammell, an RBI single by John Goodrich, and an RBI single by Goodrich.

Lopez racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Champion City Kings.

The West Virginia Miners had no answer for Corey Murphy, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The West Virginia Miners managed just two hits off of the the Champion City Kings' pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out five during his five innings of work.

Calvin Coker put together a nice outing. Coker gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out one during his 3 1/3 innings of work.

Austin Simms was charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed six runs in 1 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out one.
