Early lead gives the Prince Edward Island easy victory over the Newfoundland, 11-1

The Prince Edward Island (1-0) shut the door early on the Newfoundland (0-1), capturing an 11-1 victory on Wednesday at Leakos Field.

With eight runs in the first three innings, the Prince Edward Island left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

An RBI single by Kyle Pinksen, an RBI single by Darcy Affleck, a sacrifice fly by Cole MacLaren, an RBI single by Jayden MacLean, and an error during the first inning and in the second inning helped the Prince Edward Island put some runs on the board early.

The Prince Edward Island were led by Jed Noonan's hitting. Noonan went 3-4 and scored three runs. He tripled in the second inning and singled in the first and sixth innings.

Pinksen had an impressive outing against the Newfoundland's lineup. The Newfoundland managed just one hit off of Pinksen, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his four innings of work.

Tyler Hennessey was charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked none and struck out two.
