A walk-off single from Sam Fulginiti brought home the winning run for the Carolina Vipers (6-10) in a 6-5 victory over the Ballantyne Smokies in 10 innings at East Mecklenburg HS on Saturday.
The Carolina Vipers were led by Fulginiti's hitting. Fulginiti went 1-4. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the tenth innings.
Nick Triplett racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Carolina Vipers. He singled in the first inning and homered in the fifth inning.
Jorge Montes had an impressive outing against the Ballantyne Smokies (10-6)'s lineup. The Ballantyne Smokies managed just two hits off of Montes, who allowed one earned run, walked three and struck out five during his five innings of work.
Austin Wynn recorded his second win of the year for the Carolina Vipers. He struck out none, walked one and surrendered one hit.
Matt Thorpe was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed one run.
