Dayne Wunderlich went 2-3, helping the Matsu Miners (1-0) to a 6-3 victory over the Chugiak Chinooks (0-1) on Sunday at Loretta French Field.
He tripled in the third inning and singled in the seventh inning.Hayden Howard pitched lights out for the Matsu Miners. Howard held the Chugiak Chinooks hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five.
The Matsu Miners couldn't get anything going as long as Lance Phillips was pitching. The Matsu Miners managed just one hit off of the the Chugiak Chinooks' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his 2 2/3 innings of work.
Seve Romo improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Matsu Miners. He allowed one run over three innings. Romo struck out three, walked one and gave up three hits.
