Early lead not enough for the Falmouth Commodores, drop 6-2 decision to the Orleans Firebirds

The Falmouth Commodores (12-12) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 6-2 to the Orleans Firebirds (16-9) on Wednesday.

The Orleans Firebirds took the lead in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by RJ Ybarra.

Ybarra racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Orleans Firebirds. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the second and seventh innings.

The Falmouth Commodores couldn't get anything going as long as Tommy Bergjans was pitching. Bergjans held the Falmouth Commodores hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.

It was a good day at the plate for the Falmouth Commodores' Steven Duggar. Duggar went 3-4. He singled in the first, third, and eighth innings.

Trent Thornton improved to 3-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Orleans Firebirds. He allowed two runs over five innings. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered five hits.

Charles Mulholland (1-3) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out three.
