An ace performance by Kody McFarland spurred the Joliet Slammers (32-53) to a 7-1 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts (31-54) on Friday at Standard Bank Stadium.
McFarland's 11 strikeouts helped the Joliet Slammers to the victory. McFarland allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk over 7 2/3 innings.
The offense exploded for the the Joliet Slammers in the seventh. In the inning the Joliet Slammers scored four runs. The Joliet Slammers scored in the seventh on an RBI single by Max Casper, a two-run single by Christopher Epps, and a sacrifice fly by Grant DeBruin.
Adam Giacalone had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He homered in the second inning and doubled in the eighth inning.
Brian Oliver ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just six innings, walked none, struck out six, and allowed five runs.
The Joliet Slammers were sparked by Adam Lewis and DeBruin, who teamed up for seven hits and three RBIs.
