The Springfield Sliders (12-38) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 5-1 to the Quincy Gems (32-19) on Friday.
An error gave the Quincy Gems the lead in the fifth inning.
Cassidy Brown paced the Quincy Gems at the plate. Brown went 2-4 and drove in one. He singled in the second inning and tripled in the seventh innings.
Jake Wehde pitched lights out for the Quincy Gems. Wehde held the Springfield Sliders hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.
Kent Williams was effective even in defeat, mowing down five the Quincy Gems batters and allowing two runs.
Kyle Cedotal improved to 5-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Quincy Gems. He allowed one run over six innings. He struck out four, walked one and surrendered eight hits.
Ben Krusen (1-1) took the loss for the Springfield Sliders. He lasted just three innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed three runs.
