Saturday was a great day for Ronnie Dawson, as he hit two home runs to carry the Chillicothe Paints (18-9) to a 13-11 victory over the Richmond RiverRats (11-16) at McBride Stadium.
Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 24 runs and 30 hits, including zero extra base hits. Managers of the two teams seemingly emptied their bullpens in search of the win, as there were six pitchers used in the game.
The Richmond RiverRats had no answer for Trace Dempsey, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Dempsey held the Richmond RiverRats hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.
Despite the loss, the Richmond RiverRats' Chad Whitmer dominated the Chillicothe Paints' batters, giving up one run and striking out five.
Travis Lakins recorded his fourth win for the Chillicothe Paints even though he allowed six runs over five innings. Lakins struck out four, walked one and gave up seven hits.
Patrick Schneiders ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed 12 runs in 4 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out two.
