David Martinelli went 1-3 and hit a home run as the West Virginia Miners (15-12) took home a 3-1 victory over the Richmond RiverRats (10-15) at Linda K. Epling Stadium on Friday.

The West Virginia Miners relied on Cody Smith to eat up innings en route to the win. Smith pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks while striking out one.

The West Virginia Miners had no answer for Matt Brankle, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Brankle held the West Virginia Miners hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

Bowie Matteson couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Richmond RiverRats, taking a loss. He lasted just six innings, walked three, struck out five, and allowed three runs.
