Friday was a great day for Jeremy Newton, as Newton pitched seven shutout innings to carry the Melville Millionaires (24-16) to an 8-7 victory over the Regina Red Sox (21-18) at Pirie Field in 17 innings.
A walk-off solo blast by Homero Ortiz gave the Melville Millionaires the win.
Ortiz had two extra-base hits for the Melville Millionaires. He doubled in the seventh inning and homered in the seventeenth inning.
Ortiz improved to 7-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Melville Millionaires. He struck out five, walked none and surrendered no hits.
Chase Benfield was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed one run.
The Melville Millionaires were sparked by Ben Villafuerte and Matt Helms, who teamed up for nine hits and five RBIs.
