Smith's single gives the Hannibal Cavemen walk-off win over the Quincy Gems, 10-9

A walk-off single from Jerod Smith brought home the winning run for the Hannibal Cavemen (12-14) in a 10-9 victory over the Quincy Gems (17-8) in 18 innings at Clemens Field on Friday.

The Quincy Gems couldn't slow down Smith, who paced the Hannibal Cavemen with five hits. He singled in the fifth, seventh, ninth, sixteenth, and eighteenth innings.

Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 19 total runs and 34 hits during the game. Both bullpens were busy with 15 pitchers used in the game as the skippers of both squads tried to finish it off.

Dustin Lawson improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Hannibal Cavemen. He struck out none, walked none and surrendered no hits.

Zack Oakley ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked one, struck out none, and allowed one run.
