The Springfield Sliders (4-23) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 3-1 ballgame against the Quincy Gems (19-8) on Thursday at Robin Roberts Field.

The Quincy Gems took the lead in the ninth inning on an RBI single by Jake Ivory.

Austin Klein baffled the Springfield Sliders, striking out nine batters. Klein allowed one earned run on nine hits and two walks over six innings.

Logan Blair got the win, running his season record to 2-0. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered one hit.

Jordan Pesko (1-2) took the loss for the Springfield Sliders. He lasted just two innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
