Luke Gibbs drove in four runs as the Ballantyne Smokies (6-3) took home a 10-7 victory over the Carolina Vipers (2-7) at Ardrey Kell HS on Monday.
He homered in the fifth inning.The Carolina Vipers were led by a flawless day at the dish by Daniel Massey, who went 3-3 against the Ballantyne Smokies' pitching. He doubled in the fifth inning and singled in the third and seventh innings.
Tyler Byrnes had an impressive outing against the Ballantyne Smokies' lineup. Byrnes gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out four during his four innings of work.
Andrew Pope improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Ballantyne Smokies. He allowed four runs over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out two, walked three and surrendered eight hits.
Ryan McClintock (0-1) took the loss for the Carolina Vipers. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
