An awesome effort by Matt Boyd carried the Orleans Firebirds (1-0) to a 3-1 win over the Harwich Mariners on Thursday at Whitehouse Field.

Boyd's 11 strikeouts helped the Orleans Firebirds to the victory. Boyd allowed one earned run, three hits and two walks over seven innings.

Despite the loss, the Harwich Mariners (0-1)'s Clark Labitan dominated the Orleans Firebirds' batters, giving up zero runs and striking out seven.

Corey Littrell ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked two, struck out seven, and allowed three runs.
