The St. Joseph Mustangs (1-0) and the Tulsa Cardinals (0-1) passed the lead back and forth five times on Sunday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, but in the end the St. Joseph Mustangs pulled out an 8-4 win over the Tulsa Cardinals.
It was a good day at the plate for the St. Joseph Mustangs' Kyle Simpson. Simpson went 4-5, drove in one and scored three runs. He singled in the fourth, sixth, and eighth innings and doubled in the ninth inning.
Cody Cunningham got the win for the St. Joseph Mustangs thanks to nine strikeouts. Cunningham allowed two earned runs on nine hits and one walk over seven innings.
A bright spot for the Tulsa Cardinals in the defeat was MORGAN CROFT, who allowed only one run while striking out five.
GRIFF LAFITTE was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked two, struck out none, and allowed four runs.
